    From "World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition photograph album" (THNOC 1982.127.1-225) by Edward L. Wilson, the official photographer for the World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition.
  • stencil
    9 stencil parchment sheets used for printing. They are rolled together. Dark brown and relatively thick sheets of parchment paper.
  • clothes wrapper
    1 cotton clothes wrapper. Used for wrapping up cloth articles. Printed and painted. 3 panels stitched together to make one piece. White cotton, printed decoration in wide blue with white border of flowers, birds, plants, dots, interlocking geometric motif. Main field is mustard color. Round fields in each corner contain knot in pink and misc objects in blue and green. Large round field in center has birds and flowers in green, blue, pink, purple, and yellow. Remaining areas have 3-lobed fields with blue flower design. Associated with stamps 11201 and 11210.

    1 piece of dyed cloth. Violet cotton. Clothing for women and children.

    1 piece of dyed cloth. Very dark, stiff, purple cotton. Used for clothing.
  • mannequin head
    Carved and painted mannequin head representing female Chinese figure. Found in closet in the Exhibit Museum. Believed to be part of the Cotton Centennial Exhibition collection used for display of the silk robes. Face painted flesh colour with red lips. What appears to be human hair is attached to the head in a long pony tail. Hair tied together with red cotton thread. Clasp in pony tail-possibly Taira crest- blue, green, yellow and gold in color. Has a metal loop earring in the right ear only. A small hole in the other ear suggests that the second earring may be missing. The back of the neck has Japanese Kanji which says: 'Samurai Woman'.

    Carved and painted mannequin head representing male Chinese figure. Found in closet in the Exhibit Museum. Believed to be part of the Cotton Centennial Exhibition collection used for display of silk robes. Face painted flesh colour with red lips. What appears to be human hair is attached to the head in a braid. Head is bald on top- typical Samurai hair-style. Has a thin wooden stick protruding from the side of the neck.

  • thread reeling machine
    1 machine for reeling thread Tripod made of a forked branch and another stick attached at the crotch with metal nails. Two bamboo tubes protrude from the top of the tripod. These are inserted into holes that are just about the 3rd leg and just below the top. Apparently is supposed to be a model and have a figure of a girl at work included. Girl not present. The model is supposed to illustrate the reeling process, which follows the spinning process and precedes the stretching process depicted by S82 (UMMA number not currently known), before the weaving.

    A large tall slender jar with a long neck which tapers in the middle and leads to a large flared rim. The base is only slightly tapered from the body. Decorative additions of 4 dragons and 4 lions circle the shoulder and neck. It is covered completely in paint/glaze of multiple colors intricately depicting 10 different scenes (6 social, 4 nature) with flowering decoration covering the remainder.

    Silk on paper scroll. Narrow border of green figured silk. Border surrounds central long rectangle of cream silk which has an ink and watercolor on it. Top of the back has a small panel of blue figured silk. Cylindrical cloth covered wood dowel at base of and a semi-circular wood dowel at the top. Loop of cotton cord attached by metal rings at top (for hanging). Scene of cotton weaving. Central group of buildings with a porch. On the porch 3 women next to a loom with partially woven white cotton. Two hold finished pieces of cloth, one stand next the loom. Large tree in background, bush and large rock in foreground. Shades of brown, green blue, pink. Number 17 in series of 20.

Top of the back has a small panel of blue figured silk. Cylindrical cloth covered wood dowel at base of and a semi-circular wood dowel at the top. Loop of cotton cord attached by metal rings at top (for hanging). <br /><br /> Painting of rural scene next to a water body with several male figures. Background of fields, trees and part of a bridge. The figures appear to be harvesting and transporting cotton. Shades of blue, brown, white. Number 6 in series of 20.

    One triangle shaped flag. Picture represents eclipse, which Chinese say is brought about by toads or a dragon trying to devour the sun or moon. Yellow (or badly faded white) ground. Blue dragon with white horns. Sun or moon in red. White cotton band along short edge with loop of yellowed cotton string at one end and length of yellowed cotton string at other.
  • Flag
    One flag with stars representing seven stars of the Great Bear, which represent the "plough." Proper relative positions are not preserved. Triangle shaped flag with scalloped edges. White bands along edges. Black ground with seven white circles connected by lines. White cotton band along short edge with loop of red cotton string at one end and length of red cotton string at other end.
